The European Commission (EU) delegation in Islamabad is organising a seminar to introduce Pakistani exporters and importers to the trade developments taking place after the end of the textile quota regime in 2005 and the launch of the new GSP at a hotel here on November 30.

The seminar will provide an opportunity to the exporters and importers to the European Union (EU) market to exchange their views on the aftermath of the textile quota regime as well as the launch of the new GSP. The EU is Pakistan's largest trading partner.

The EU-Pakistan overall trade volume increased from Euro 5.06 billion in 2002 and Euro 5.16 billion in 2003 to Euro 6.09 billion in 2004. In the same period, the trade deficit declined due to increase in European Commission (EU) exports and was recorded at Euro 412 million in favour of Pakistan.

The seminar will also address the other specific issues such as the situation of the compliance with IPRs in the country (in general), compliance with the EU regulations for Pakistani exporters to the EU market and in addition, will have a presentation on the EU-Export Helpdesk website particularly meant to provide online assistance to the exporters from third countries on the product of their interest.
